A man died in a crush when his car flung off road and sheared into two at the R40 near Mbombela showgrounds on Monday afternoon.

According to an eye witness at the scene he was driving towards Mbombela town. “His car hit a concrete that barricades the road and hit a lamp pole. He was travelling alone,” he said.

According to a statement from the department of community safety, security and liaison the driver was seriously injured and was transported to Rob Ferreira Hospital where he later died.
