Mbombela refutes brown water issue

Residents raised a concern about brown water from taps

BARBERTON – The City of Mbombela Municipality has set the record straight regarding the problem of brown water from taps.
This comes after residents in this township noticed that the water from their taps is not clean. Some of the community members suspected that the water is brown because it is not purified by the municipality because the institution is facing financial crisis.

The spokesperson of the municipality, Mr Joseph Ngala refuted the allegations and also said that the water went through the purification process. “We are aware that there are residents in the Southern Region who receive brown water from their taps and we are addressing the matter. In some of the sections, there were burst pipes and we fixed the problem.

“Let me also indicate that as a municipality, we are experiencing the problem of brown water from taps because of the heavy rains. The water is brown in our main source not because it’s not purified, it’s clean, it is just the colour but we are working on it. We are appealing to the community to bear with us and be patient as we are addressing the problem. This is not something new, especially during the rainy season. We previously had a similar problem at KaNyamazane during the rainy season,” Ngala said.
