Police looking for suspects who mugged a police officer

It is reported that he struggled until he managed to untie himself in the early hours of the next day.

Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Tonga, near Malelane are looking for three unknown suspects who mugged a police sergeant attached to the SAPS at Mbuzini on Friday evening, 29 December 2017.

The 43-year-old police officer was driving in the area when he was accosted by the trio, who hijacked the vehicle he was driving and kidnapped him, before dropping him in the bushes at the neighbouring trust of Phiva.

According to information at police disposal, the member was driving in his Ford Bantam bakkie white in colour, when the trio pounced on him with one of the suspects pointing a firearm at him.

They then took the vehicle and two cellphones, tied him up and drove away with him to the trust mentioned above.

It is reported that he struggled until he managed to untie himself in the early hours of the next day, and proceeded to a nearby house to seek assistance.

The vehicle has since been recovered parked at an unoccupied house from neighbouring Schoemansdal, no arrest was made.
