Festive season road fatalities decrease

"We extend our gratitude to members of the public who behaved well on the road during the festive season," said MEC for community safety, security and liaison, Pat Ngomane.

The MEC for community safety, security and liaison, Pat Ngomane says that road fatalities have decreased compared to last year.

It decreased 7,65 per cent.

He announced this during the presentation of the festive season report held on Tuesday at Mbombela Stadium.

“In total 1632 people sustained injuries emanating 891 road crashes.

The report shows that there are 61 pedestrians who were killed form December 1 2017 to January 15 2018.

Over 700 motorists were arrested , 509 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol,221 excessive speeding and eight for reckless and negligence driving. 38581 fines were issued to motorists,” said Ngomane.
