DA walks out of legislature

Drama unfolded at the legislature when the Democratic Alliance led by its newly-appointed leader, Ms Jane Sithole staged a walk-out from the legislature at the 2018/19 budget speech this afternoon.

According to Sithole,  the acting premier,  Ms Refilwe Mtsweni has no mandate of responding  to debates to the  state of the province address (Sopa) because it was  delivered by former premier, Mr David Mabuza.

She said the DA decided to leave the house because they don’t want to be a part of the violation of rule 103 (2).
Mtsweni responded in the DA’s absentia. She also congratulated Sithole for her appointment as the leader of the DA. “Leadership comes with responsibility which includes respecting the speaker of the house, ” she said.
