Working on Fire launches Fire Awareness campaign
A total of 480 firefighters are stationed at 24 bases all in the province ready to combat veld fires this Winter Fire Season.
Working on Fire (WOF) in Mpumalanga launched their Fire Awareness Campaign in near Middelburg recently.
WOF was joined by various stakeholders including the South African Police Service (SAPS), Nkangala District Municipality, Steve Tshwete Local Municipality and Eskom.
With the Fire Season in full swing, WOF launches Community Fire Awareness Campaigns throughout the province with the aim to teach communities to be safe, prevent unwanted veld and forest fire, raise the risk of veld and forest fires and to empower those at risk to take responsibility to reduce the risk and impact of fires in their communities.
The launch kicked off with a roadshow on the streets of Doornkop, where firefighters and the SAPS marched to the sounds of the SAPS band. The roadshow concluded at the Doornkop Community Hall, where various speakers presented fire safety talks to the public in attendance.

“We urge communities to be more vigilant during this fire season and not start unnecessary fires, particularly during dry days this Winter,” WOF provincial spokesperson, Amanda Mthembu, said.
She further appealed to people to remove unnecessary rubble on their properties which can pose a serious fire risk.
