WATCH: Mataffin residents demand electricity

According to community members, the area has not had electricity for almost two months.

Community members went to the City of Mbombela’s Energy, Public Works, Transport, Water and Sanitation department offices Thursday morning.

Prince Mabutho, a resident, said the situation is bad to a point that food has gone to waste refrigerators are not working due to the blackouts.

”Our people are not safe anymore with criminal activity and thugs are taking advantage of the situation. There are diabetic people who have to store their insulin injection in their refrigerators but it is impossible. This has affected the community badly. We plead with the municipality to restore the electricity because we are entitled to basic services as South African citizens,” he said.
