EXCO appoints Director-General and deputy

Mpumalaga Provincial Cabinet appointed of Sindisiwe Xulu as the Director-General and for the province and Peter Nyoni as her deputy yesterday.

The executive said in statement that she brings with her a wealth of experience having served as an accounting officer in various departments including Agriculture, Rural Development Land and Environment Affairs, Culture, Sports and Recreation as well as Public Works, Roads and Transport.

“As the accounting officer Xulu succeeded in turning around some of the departments that were under-performing including one that was placed under administration. She has consistently improved the audit outcomes of the departments,” read the statement.

Xulu said she was honoured to be afforded such an opportunity to lead the province. “I am mindful of the responsibilities that come with this position and I am confident that I will do my best to serve the people of Mpumalanga,” she said.

The appointment of Busisiwe Evelyn Nkuna as the Accounting Officer for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liason.

The statement further read that executive council’s decision reflect Mpumalanga’s commitment to advance the development and emergence of capable women in the Public Sector in line with the president Cyril Ramaphosa’s call to prioritise empowerment of women.

“It is time that deserving women are given a chance and opportunity to lead, we as the Mpumalnga Government are committed to making sure that we change the narrative by writing our own history as women”, said Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane.
