With the aim of reaching out to the community, members of the Greater Rape Intervention Project (GRIP) recently visited the Mbombela taxi rank. According to Nomshado Ndlovu of GRIP, this was part of its awareness campaign and outreach programme to educate the public about issues related to gender-based violence (GBV). “We interacted with the public, taxi drivers and commuters,” Ndlovu said.

The organisation partnered with Sanca, the SAPS, National Institute for Crime Prevention and the Reintegration of Offenders, and LifeLine. The aim was to empower women, men and children by means of education. “We handed out pamphlets and shared information that will help community members if faced with GVB-related issues. “Reaching out to the public at the taxi rank makes it easy for us to meet people going to different areas in Mpumalanga. We managed to spread the word to several places,” Ndlovu said.
