St Peter’s School changes its opening date in line with new lockdown

This independent school was supposed to open on January 13, but it has changed the date to January 19.

St Peter’s School has postponed the reopening date for the 2021 school year. This independent school was supposed to open on January 13, but it has changed the date to January 19.

The school principal, Busi Zwane, shared a press statement on Tuesday afternoon on the school’s Facebook page. In it the principal stated that, “This decision will allow the school to comply with the lockdown decision, as well as revisit the risk-control measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our learners as this remains our top priority.”

Zwane said the decision was made in cognisance with the current lockdown status, level 3, that the president announced on December 28.

There will be no open day for new learners.

“The new learners will be received just like all learners on the first day of school. Teachers will ensure that they are well looked after on arrival,” she said.

The school has also suspended all the planned social gathering events until further notice.

“Should the school plan to host one, it will ensure that the five key preventative measures – social distancing, wearing of masks, hand hygiene, symptoms checkup and testing – are taken care of,” she explained.
