Mountain View allegedly instructed to operate regardless of confirmed Covid-19 case
According to one of the employees at the school, who wished to remain anonymous due to fear of victimisation, this is the fifth case of Covid-19.
Teachers and learners of Mountain View Primary School fear testing Covid-positive after a case was allegedly confirmed at the school. The school reportedly informed the Department of Education (DoE) about the case and was instructed to continue operating without any valid reasons given.

According to one of the employees at the school, who wished to remain anonymous due to fear of victimisation, this is the fifth case of Covid-19. The source said the school had never been instructed to close for proper disinfection and fumigation in all these cases. The source further alleged that a neighbouring school in town was immediately instructed to close down for fumigation after a positive case had been confirmed not long ago.
“All we need is to get the school fumigated and disinfected like other schools, for our safety. We are scared, because since February we have had cases, and we are not certain whether we’ll be infected or not,” the source said.

Another employee confirmed this latest case had been reported to the circuit manager, but no instructions to close the school for fumigation were received. The spokesperson for the DoE, Jasper Zwane, said the department was not informed about all these allegations.
“The department is not aware of such an instruction to continue operating at Mountain View Primary School. It would be irresponsible to issue such an instruction,” he said. Zwane reiterated that under no circumstances should Covid-19 health and safety protocols be neglected.
