Mamuruti cooks up delicious meals with love

Even in her house she will cook up a storm, so that whoever comes in gets food.

Being a pastor’s wife did not stop Maria Dlamini from achieving her dreams of being her own boss. Dlamini’s passion for tasty and succulent food saw her cooking craft turning into a business during the heat of the country’s lockdown last year.

Mamuruti’s Dream Kitchen delivers to clients with love and a smile. Dlamini is a testament of social media’s potential for one’s benefit and growth. The few sandwiches she posted on Facebook during level 3 of the country’s lockdown last year opened doors for her, as many customers called in with orders.

“I started with sandwiches, marketing them freely on Facebook and Instagram. The response I received was overwhelming. I received so many orders on my first day. From there I never looked back. I use my kitchen at home to run this business,” she said.

Dlamini delivers orders to clients ordering large quantities, while others collect theirs. She has loved cooking all her life. “I did home economics at school and it was the only subject I was the best at.  I also cook soup for the underprivileged in my area and deliver it to them,” she said. Dlamini learned some of her recipes off different cooking groups available on social media and invented some of her own. She encourages members of the public to always try to eat healthy meals at all times, to combat diseases and infections related to poor eating habits.

Since starting up, she has hired one person to help her with the business. Her dream is for it to grow, to include new dishes and to create job opportunities for more people. Asked about her breakthrough in life, she said, “It was when I discovered my purpose.”

Dlamini is motivated by successful young people living their dreams and remaining humble. She had in the past sold ginger biscuits and clothes. She continues to serve her local church and the community through her Maria Dlamini Ministries, where she collects sanitary packs and donates them to various schools for needy teenagers. Dlamini said she had overcome any challenges brought by the pandemic through prayer and her trust in Jesus Christ.
