KaBokweni kwaito singer nominated for music awards

EL Rhythms, born Elphus Silinda, from Ngodini is one of the province’s artists nominated for the sixth Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards (Mkhma).

The 31-year-old musician has been nominated in the Best New Amapiano Artist category for his hit song ‘Supaman’ which was produced by late DJ Alphy May.

El Rhythms needs your vote to bring the trophy home. The public may vote by sending an SMS Mkhma BNAA EL RHYTHMS to 40439. Each SMS cost R2 only. Members of the public may vote for as many times as they wish.

The awards are about recognising, celebrating and connecting kwaito and house artists and those who are constantly working hard behind closed doors to craft great music.

The prestigious music award ceremony is set to take place on November 27 at the Sun City Super Bowl, Rustenburg. El Rhythms started his music journey in 2007. He was a member of the group K Rising, which released a number of hit songs including “Ngin’bhacile’ and “Jima”. El Rhythms is currently signed with Distinctly Xclusive Productions. Last year he released an EP, Ko Jozi Otlo timela, consisting six songs .

“l loved good music since my high school years. I wished there was a school of arts in the province because music was all I wanted to study after my matric. I also have a lot of passion for talent and wishes to open one in the province,” he said.

El Rhythms composes and writes his own music about what happens around him. “I communicate my message to various audiences through music. Speaking through a song and making people dance to those lyrics melts my heart,” he said.

He is inspired by other heavyweights artists in the industry including Zola, Mdu, Mandoza, DJ Sdunkero and Shisaboy.

“I wish to work with artist like Spikiri, DJ Maphorisa and Heavy K. I believe it is time for the people of Mzansi to know my story,” he said. His advice to upcoming artists is not to imitate others, but to be original, believe in themselves and continue to work hard.
