Mpumalanga police make 1 360 arrests in one week
The provincial police, working with the community and other law enforcement agencies, have recorded a resounding 1 360 arrests in just a week.
The provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Semakaleng Manamela, applauded members of the police and security agencies for working tirelessly over the past week.
According to reports, the suspects were charged for various violations, including murder, attempted murder, rape, assault with an intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, possession of stolen property, fraud, armed robbery, incitement to commit a crime, possession of drugs, possession of dagga, illegal possession of unlicensed firearms, and transportation of liquor during lockdown alert level 4.

“Some people who were not spared were those who had committed domestic violence, drunken driving, burglary at residential places, malicious damage to property, selling of expired food, violation of lockdown regulations by loitering in the streets beyond curfew time, as well as not wearing masks and other criminal violations,” said the provincial police spokesperson, Brig Leonard Hlathi.
Some of the suspects have already appeared in various courts in the province, while some will appear on Monday July 26.
