Young people get it done themselves
The unemployed youth of Embonisweni Trust outside KaBokweni have rolled up their sleeves to the service of their own community.

These young men and women took it upon themselves to fix the distressingly bad and untarred main road leading to this busiest of villages.
“We decided to come together as young people and do something positive for our community, because we knew no one would come and do things for us. The main road was extremely bad and needed a facelift, so we took matters into our own hands and decided to fix it,” explained one of the community leaders, Sifiso Gabriel Monareng.

He said they approached Malelane Stene for assistance, and this giant brick company donated cut-off bricks that they use to pave the main road.
The road they are fixing is about 1.5km long and had not been tarred all along, which according to Monareng made it difficult for vehicles to use.
“This is our main road. Our taxis and buses use this road daily. Our own brothers and sisters depend on this road and with the current status, it just becomes a burden for all motorists to use it,” said Monareng.
“We owe it to Malelane Stene, who didn’t hesitate to come to our rescue when we approached them for support. We also want to thank our municipality, the City of Mbombela, for coming to the party and donating much-needed graders and other working materials needed to pave the road,” acknowledged Monareng.
He said they do not have funders for the project and the young people are not getting paid for their services and time.
“We are doing this out of love for our community. Yes, it would be great for the youth volunteering here to also earn something, but we understand the situation, hoping that these young people working here would be given first preference when there are projects and employment opportunities in the area,” added Monareng.
