“I went to the clinic on Sunday just to do a simple HIV test since I didn’t have the home kit to administer this at home. When I got there I was given a form to fill out and was mandated to fill my residential address. I wrote my parents’ home address which is in Pienaar. However, I no longer live with them. I now stay at my rented place in KaNyamazane because I work here. Immediately after seeing that I wrote the Pienaar address the clinic staff refused to help me,” she claimed.

It is not the first time this public healthcare facility has made such media headlines. There were a numerous complaints about the standard of service rendered by this clinic in the past months.

“I tried explaining to the staff that I am now residing in the area, but at a rented flat and that is why I put my parents’ home address instead of where I am renting. But they just didn’t want to hear any of it. One of the staff members even told me that they were too busy to attend to my case. I left without being helped,” she continued.

The Department of Health in Mpumalanga said it will investigate the matter and see to it that the patient in question receives attention.
