Fourth Mbombela Jazz Festival promises soul food

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) has announced the hosting of the fourth annual Mbombela Jazz Festival, scheduled to take place from October 14 to December 11.

The announcement was made at Casterbridge Hollow Boutique Hotel last Friday.

MTPA’s CEO, Johannes Nobunga, said this year’s annual music extravaganza promises the greatest entertainment that will enthrall audiences expected to visit the City of Mbombela from beyond the borders of the province.

This year’s Mbombela Jazz Festival will be staged in three local municipalities: the City of Mbombela, Nkomazi and eMalahleni.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on the tourism sector, with a number of events either cancelled or postponed. We are confident that being hosted in different municipalities, we will be able to have an intimate event in compliance with Covid-19 regulations. The instalment of this annual event will boost the economy of the province, create temporary employment and further provide growth opportunities for small businesses,” said Nobunga.

He further indicated that the MTPA and tourism stakeholders in the province continue to work together to revive the sector and encourage people to continue to travel to the province’s destination sites even during Covid-19.

National artists of note, including Thandiswa Mazwai, Lira and Mafikizolo, will mesmerise the audience alongside local artists like Princess Indlovukazi, Afrotraction and Blulamp.

The 2021 edition will again feature a very exciting Mpumalanga Pro-Am Golf Tournament to feature more than 20 professional golf players.

“We are excited to introduce the new gospel and watersports segment for the first time this year. For the revival of the soul, the following gospel singers will be featured: Solly Mahlangu and Bishop Benjamin Dube, as well as Mpumalanga’s own gospel artists. We always ensure that we strive to provide an appealing programme that will entice a wide range of audiences,” said Anele Mbasane, CEO of Harmocept.

Mbasane added that the festival will culminate in a watersports extravaganza that will take place at Driekoppies Dam in Nkomazi, and will feature top clubs.
