Roadworks and damages a nightmare for residents
The current roadworks in De Beer Street, Lydenburg, are a nightmare for residents.
One even said her husband was shocked when he touched a water tap on Thursday August 26, due to the water and electricity infrastructure having been damaged by an excavator. She took a photo of the damage. The whole street was without water and electricity at intervals for nearly three days last week. Due to the heavy vehicles using De Beer Street in 2020 while Potgieter Street was being refurbished, severe damage was done to the road surface. The main damage was in front of Lydenburg Correctional Services. Residents complained because the contractors damaged the water supply within the first hour they started working on the De Beer Street site last week. TCLM said it was trying to keep ahead of all the repairs and that is in the best interest of the contractor to resurface roads before the rain season. The council also said in a statement that it requests the public’s patience as muchneeded repairs are being done.
