Awards ceremony honours men

South Africa's best of the best in sport were honoured at a dazzling awards ceremony on Sunday.

Hosted at Emnotweni, the Mpumalanga Sport Awards drew the attention of the nation.

“These awards not only acknowledge excellence on the sports field, but also aim to inspire and encourage future talent in the province, while recognising and putting a spotlight on those who have excelled, making Mpumalanga and our nation shine,” said Lonwabo Daniels, Nedbank provincial general manager for Mpumalanga.

Nedbank is one of the awards’ sponsors. This annual event happens against the backdrop of a global pandemic that has had a huge impact on life in general, and sporting events have not been spared. Due to Covid-19 and the accompanying regulations and restrictions, most sporting codes did not perform in 2020.

This year’s event honoured legends and bestowed posthumous awards on fallen sport stars.
