11-year-old takes up taekwondo against bullies

An 11-year-old boy has been inspired to join taekwondo classes after seeing many learners being bullied at schools.

MBOMBELA -Sabu Shiba said that most learners experience bullying on a daily basis.

This grade five learner of Sonheuwel said, “I wanted to join the self-defence classes because I want to defend myself from being bullied at school. I started training at the age of seven.

“I do not like bullies and I am also not a bully. I play and treat other children very well, because I have seen the negative effects of being bullied. Some learners like to control and bully other learners, so I do not want to be a victim, and I plan to help others understand the dangers of bullying.

“I am happy, because since I have joined martial arts, it has helped me to become mentally strong and most importantly, I will protect myself and my family from thugs who try to do break-ins at home, ” he said.

“I want to see myself earning a black belt one day.” Sabu encouraged young boys and girls to join self-defence classes for their own safety. “I wish other young boys and girls can join these classes, so that they defend themselves whenever it is necessary.”
