Man arrested for drug possession

The suspect claimed innocence and said somebody had sent him with the package.

A man carrying a bag containg drugs allegedly told police that he was taking the bag to Mozambique before heading to Brazil.
The 41-year-old man was arrested along the N4 highway near Kaapmuiden today, Saturday, November 15.

A policeman who was on patrol in the area received a tip-off about a man carrying a bag containing drugs next to the road.

“The officer approached the man and requested to search his bag. During the search, the officer found two books wrapped in decorative paper. Upon opening the books, he discovered a white compressed substance. The officer then asked the man if he knew what the content was,” said Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane.

He also claimed to be homeless and hailed from Springs, and had been taken from the street, handed a package and instructed to deliver it in Mozambique, after which he would proceed to Brazil.

“The substance was confirmed to be crystal meth weighing 1.455kg with an estimated street value if approximately R350 000” Ndubane further explained.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, November 17, facing charges of possession of drugs.
