Ehlanzeni police awarded for excellence

Police officers from Mpumalanga’s Ehlanzeni District Municipality were recognised and rewarded for their dedication and hard work.

The Mpumalanga SAPS was recognised at the Ehlanzeni District Excellence Awards on Wednesday, November 5. Members of the police attended the elegant event at the Mbombela Stadium, dressed in black and gold, ready to receive their awards.

The ceremony was attended by SAPS representatives of all departments in the Ehlanzeni region, including acting provincial commissioner, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi. Buscor executive chairperson Dr Norah Fakude, the South African Police Union, the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union, and the community policing forum were present.

During his address, Mkhwanazi thanked all the members and departments while highlighting the region’s troubling crime statistics. “We have a huge problem in this region, especially with tourism and tourist attacks. Yes, we have incidents on the driveway, but tourism is a big concern.”

Mkhwanazi added that the special day was meant to celebrate the hard work and outstanding contribution of the police.

“Today we celebrate the tireless efforts of individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to upholding the law, protecting the vulnerable, and building trust within our communities. I extend my congratulations to all the award winners.”

Mkhwanazi told the audience that the police are a beacon of hope for the community and that their dedication has not gone unnoticed. “We honour the memories of those who have lost their lives in the line of duty and offer support to their loved ones,” he added.

Award categories included men and women of the year, administration employee of the year, visible policing employee of the year, detective service employee of the year, detective service of the year, person with a disability, and community policing forum of the year.

Fakude, who attended to motivate the police, said there are high-risk areas where Buscor operates and police are always present to protect people from criminal activities. She explained that the company relies on the police to ensure the safety of their passengers.

“You are not just receiving awards; you are the hope of everyone who depends on the wheels of the police. It is not about ranks and positions, but the professionalism and education you take pride in,” she said.
