March is Consumer Awareness month

The Mpumalanga Economic Regulator (MER) reminds the public that March is Consumer Awareness Month, a time to empower communities with knowledge about their rights and responsibilities.

As the regulator of the gambling and liquor industries in Mpumalanga, MER works to ensure fair practices, responsible participation and protection of consumers.

Your rights as a consumer

You have the right to:
• Use licensed and regulated gambling establishments
• Buy liquor from legally registered outlets
• Receive fair and transparent services
• Report suspicious, illegal or unethical activities.

Remember these safety rules

Criminals are increasingly pretending to be from banks or regulators to trick people into providing personal information or making payments.
No bank will ever call you to ask for your:
• Bank card PIN
• OTP (one-time PIN)
• Security codes

No employee of the MER will ever call you requesting payment for assistance or services into a personal or unknown bank account.

ll official MER payments are made only through authorised MER processes and accounts.
