The Mpumalanga Fashion, Arts and Crafts Affair is a platform aimed for young designers and artists to gain exposure and employment opportunities.

The first Mpumalanga Fashion, Arts and Crafts Affair saw a number of fashion designers and artists showcasing their creativity at BWM Mbombela on Saturday night.

The platform set by fashion enthusiast, better known as a media personality of note, Kedebone Mkhabela, said the aim of the fashion show was to expose young and passionate fashion enthusiasts like herself, to the local fashion industry and to make a living off their passion.

“There are a lot of opportunities available, but most do not know where to start, and the show is like a bridge to such opportunities. I want to connect the youth to the right institutions that will give them the experience they need to be the best designers, artists and crafters to come out of Mpumalanga,” Mkhabela told Lowvelder Express.

Her motivation to have the show was when she realised that the fashion industry is somewhat overlooked in the province.
“I have spent so much time in Mpumalanga, and the fashion scene is not as broad as the the one in KwaZulu-Natal or Gauteng. We need to create opportunities at home so that the youth do not run to other areas to seek what can be provided in our province.”

Mkhabela said the show was a start to many workshops throughout the year at which there will be access to information about the industry.
