Banaka Thwala, a young man from Barberton, has been training with Golden Arrows for a week now

Thwala had an opportunity to join Amazulu but he opted for Golden Arrows.

The captain of the St Mark’s soccer squad for 2022, Banaka Thwala, may soon fulfil his ambition of playing in South Africa’s top flight league.
Some scouts were impressed by the 18-year-old midfielder who recently finished his matric at St Mark’s and helped the team reach the quarter-finals of the National Kay Motsepe Schools Cup.

Among the teams keeping an eye on the centre midfielder, is AmaZulu FC.
According to his representative coach, Hopewell Goba, the young star has been training with Golden Arrows DStv Diski challenge side.
“Thwala has been in Durban for a week now and he is doing quite well.

I like the fact that he is disciplined and a dedicated young player, I can assure you this young man has a bright future in the football fraternity.”

Goba said they had received offers from teams like Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Amazulu.
“Intially the lad was supposed to be in the Camp of Usuthu (Amazulu), but with the issue of logistics and the current situation at the team where they continuously change the Diski challenge coaches, we saw it best that he joins Golden Arrows.

We had offers from the Soweto side as well as the Tshwane giants wanting the youngster to join their development side, but we didn’t consider that since we know how they never give young people a chance.”

Goba told this publication that they chose Arrows as they see the opportunities that will benefit Thwala.

“After some discussions with the lad and his father, we took him to Arrows because we see that he will make a breakthrough there and he will be afforded fair opportunities. At Arrows we know that they believe in nurturing young stars and they quickly promote them to the first team which helps them to grow and develop.

For now we want him to focus on being better and forget about remuneration, we know that at Arrows they give everyone a fair chance to display what they have so this environment will mould Thwala to become better.”

Goba said Amazulu communicated with him, asking if the boy would join them yesterday, January 9.
“We currently want them to sort their issues first, we know that they are also good at giving young people a chance, and looking at the position that he plays he can really get a shot at the team, but we chose Arrows and we believe that he will make it there.
