Working on Fire firefighters graduate in Mbombela

Some 49 firefighters from Working on Fire teams across the country attended a recent graduation ceremony, after they had passed with flying colours.

The Working on Fire hosted a crew leader type 1 graduation ceremony for new crew leaders across the country.

Altogether 49 firefighters from various provinces graduated during a ceremony at Kishugu Training Academy in Mbombela today, March 16.

The Mpumalanga spokesperson for Working on Fire, Amanda Mthembu, said, “The ceremony was the culmination of hard work for the 49 firefighters who lead Working on Fire teams to conduct integrated fire management and assist in combatting wild- and land fires.”

Mthembu said this is an ongoing training initiative to create more skills development opportunities for the young men and women from the most disadvantaged communities to be trained as veld and forest firefighters.

“The 41-day crew leader type 1 course has been specifically designed to provide intensive training to firefighters on advanced veld and forest firefighting, fireline supervision skills and critical health and safety procedures that are required to lead a veld and forest firefighting team.”
