SAPS confiscates R1.9m’s dagga at border outside Mkhondo

No arrests were made, as the group of suspects managed to evade capture and flee.

The SAPS and members of the SANDF confiscated 49 bags of dagga weighing about 472kg, with an estimated value of R1.9m, at the Emahlathini Border Post outside Mkhondo on Sunday April 2.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a tip-off from some community members was received.

“The identified scene was closely monitored when a group of the alleged dagga smugglers was spotted. When the team tried to corner them, they immediately ran away, crossing the border from South Africa into eSwatini,” he said.
