Protesters close roads in Matsafeni

The police are on the scene to monitor the situation.

Enraged community members have blockaded all entry roads into Matsafeni since 03:00 today, July 11.

The protesters demonstrated on the streets of the informal settlement by burning tyres, and placing stones and logs on the streets.

They are demanding that the City of Mbombela (CoM) address them on when the main contractor will be appointed to commence with the development of the roads.

One of the protesters, Nkosinathi Nkosi, said the CoM issued the date of July 1 to appoint the contractor.

“We are tired of waiting for municipality. We will continue with the protest until we get an answer. We cannot live in an area with dilapidated roads.”
