Fikile Mbalula leads a peaceful candlelight march in Barberton

 This candlelight march is part of the initiatives the ANC is hosting ahead of its 112th Anniversary Rally on January 13.

The ANC’s secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula, led a peaceful candle-lit march with the community of Umjindi, Ward 45, on Wednesday night January 10.

This is part of the ANC’s Reclaim the Night Programme. This peaceful march is part of the initiatives that the ANC is hosting ahead of its 112th Anniversary Rally and January 8 Statement on Saturday January 13.

According to the ANC, they were walking united against community crime, their steps echoing the collective call for safety and solidarity. Mbalula addressed the community before the walk. He was joined by ANCYL leaders led by the Youth League’s president, Collen Malatji.

On Sunday January 7, Mbalula also addressed members and supporters of the party at the Umjindi Town Hall as part of its build-up programme.

This annual event will see the party’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa, addressing its members and outlining the organisation’s priorities for the year ahead, in what is called the January 8 Statement.
