JJ Peters court saga to continue in March in Nelspruit Regional Court
JJ Peters was accused of killing his grandmother in February 2022 and he has been in police custody for 23 months without an opportunity to plead.
JJ Peters is expected to appear in the Nelspruit Regional Court on March 7 for plea proceedings and his trial.
Peters has been in police custody for 23 months without trial or plea.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority’s provincial spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, Peters had appeared in the Nelspruit Regional Court on December 11 for a possible plea. However, the matter was postponed to March for the trail to commence.

Peters was arrested for allegedly killing his grandmother, Sannie Strydom Kilmister (68), on February 28, 2022.
At the time of her death, he had been sharing her house on a smallholding in the Cromdale area.

He abandoned his official bail application during his third district court appearance on March 16, 2022.
On January 30, 2023, Peters’ legal team requested that he undergo mental observation before his murder trial could proceed. This was done to ensure he was fit to stand trial and understood the gravity of the crime he allegedly committed. The court found him to be so.
