DA confident it will win national elections in Mpumalanga

John Steenhuisen, the DA leader, recently addressed party members and supporters at its manifesto launch. He also led a march against the water crisis in South Africa on Human Rights Day.

The DA leader, John Steenhuisen, said he is confident the party will govern Mpumalanga after the upcoming national and provincial elections.

He addressed his party supporters and members during the DA’s Mpumalanga manifesto launch rally at the amphitheatre of the NG Kerk-Suid in Mbombela on March 21.

“The people of Mpumalanga have the right to quality water and sanitation, housing and more basic needs that the ruling party has failed to provide. Many communities have been waiting for decent provision of water, electricity, jobs, education and health for 30 years. These are not just empty promises we are making. We are backing our manifesto with our successes in the Western Cape, where there is an accountable government that delivers basic services. We are going for the number-one spot in this particular province. We have a good chance of winning and growing successfully. The provincial DA leadership is doing a great job, and we hope our supporters will come out in numbers on May 29 to vote,” said Steenhuisen.

The DA had been the official opposition in this province for two decades, making it the second biggest political party in Mpumalanga. It was, however, toppled from this position by the Mpumalanga EFF, led by Collen Sedibe. This time around, the DA is not keen on settling for second best or anything less than majority control.

Prior to the rally, Steenhuisen led the party’s supporters and members in a march against South Africa’s water crisis from the Wimpy in Ferreira Street to the Nelspruit Amphitheatre. It marked the start of the DA’s comprehensive national campaign to ‘Rescue South Africa’ as the general elections approach.

The party’s chairperson, Dr Ivan Meyer, the chief whip, Siviwe Gwarube, the provincial leader, Jane Sithole, the provincial chairperson, Bosman Grobler, and members of the provincial executive, councillors and activists were also present at the launch and participated in the march.
