MEC for education monitors school renovation project in Nkomazi

The school is undergoing a major renovation project that is part of the broader service delivery, which will be completed in October.

The Mpumalanga MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba, paid a school infrastructure improvement monitoring visit to Mgobodzi Primary School in the Nkomazi Local Municipality on Thursday April 18. Mgobodzi Primary School is undergoing a major renovation project, of which the planned completion date is October.

The construction of this school is part of the broader service delivery agenda by the Mpumalanga Department of Education to create favourable conditions for teaching and learning throughout the province.

Majuba said: “We are indeed proud to be involved in the construction of the state-of-the-art school, which will soon be representation of a transformed learning landscape. The project encompasses the construction of a brand-new administration block, which will provide a professional and welcoming environment, outlook and feel for the schools’ members of staff and visitors.”

He said 19 classrooms had been built to offer learners a well-equipped and welcoming setting in which to learn and grow.

“This project extends beyond the traditional classroom setting to encompass the holistic development of learners in a scientific and technology-driven world. A new library has been established, fostering a love of reading and providing access to a wealth of knowledge. This school will have a well-equipped kitchen facility to ensure that learners receive nutritious meals, supporting their physical and mental well-being. Two dedicated Grade R centres have been built to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment for early childhood development. For the management and administration of the safety and security of the school community, a guardhouse is constructed. The school’s visual appeal has been enhanced with the installation of a clear-view fence, creating a sense of openness and security.”

Majuba said the community must work together to ensure that the school is free from crime, drugs, gangsters and weapon trafficking.
“A strong emphasis should be placed on learner discipline. A well-disciplined learning environment fosters respect, promotes focus and allows learners to reach their full potential in this school.”
