Sod-turning ceremony for new clinic in Thulamahashe

The MEC for health hosted this ceremony to start the construction of a new clinic in Dumphries Village. This project is expected to be completed within 18 months.

The Mpumalanga Department of Health (DoH) conducted a sod-turning ceremony at Dumphries Village, Ward 28, Thulamahashe to mark the beginning of the construction of the Dumphries Clinic on Wednesday April 24.

The MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, officiated this ceremony to start the construction of a new state-of-the-art facility, which is expected to be completed within 18 months. The clinic will include, among others, chronic care, acute care, promotive and preventive health, shared support and general public areas.

In her speech, Manzini introduced the contractor to the community. She requested everyone to protect the project and ensure that its work is completed. She further encouraged them to use the facility once it is completed and operational. “Through this facility, members of the community will get services within walking distance, therefore people are encouraged to check their health status within three months once this clinic is operational.

“We used to travel more than 15km to the nearest health facility. With this new clinic that will be available in our village, we are happy and we will use it. Our health conditions will improve and we will live for more than 70 years,” said some community members.

Induna Mdluli of the Mashangana Traditional Authority thanked Manzini and the DoH for the new clinic and promised that the community would take care of the project and the facility once it has been completed.
