KaNyamazane senior citizen club gathers for informative event
The speakers tackled various interesting subjects to educate the club members in celebration of Women's Month.
Many senior citizens from all walks of life came together to celebrate women during the KaNyamazane Government Senior Citizens Social Club’s 2024 Women’s Celebration at the Ndalo Lodge on August 23.
The organiser, Pr Mavis Mhlanga, said the aim of the event was to commemorate the women of 1956 as it was Women’s Month. The elderly came out in numbers to network, while learning how to care for themselves, how to keep busy after retirement and that there is a life even for senior citizens.

During the event, devotions were conducted by Gladys Maseko, the former principal of Tenteleni Primary School, while Mphe Matela, a retired educational specialist, did some motivational speaking, and Rachel Mokoena, a retired social worker, was the guest speaker. During her motivational talk, Matela spoke about finding true happiness and joy from within. She said the challenge was that sometimes people tend to expect that happiness to come from others; meanwhile, it’s not the case.
“When others are married, they expect that their husband will be responsible for their happiness, but you are supposed to be the one responsible, not your spouse.”
Matela also reminded them to assist others and let them benefit from their gifts.
Mokoena spoke about being focused on ageing and positive thinking. “You cannot avoid ageing, and it starts in early childhood. You start ageing from 20 years on. When you age, you might not see it, although you are.” She said it is critical to understand one cannot separate mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health. “The Word of God is a perfect mirror to know who you are.”
