Nsikazi pupils shine in KMI Airport’s spelling bee contest
The aim of the competition was for pupils to participate in an educational activity outside their respective schools.
The second annual KMI Airport Schools Spelling Bee competition was an exciting extracurricular activity for pupils of some of the schools in Nsikazi.
The competition took place at the airport on October 18 and the participants walked away with some great prizes. The airport’s head of community liaison, Mbongeni Mashigo, said the aim was to provide a source of extra educational activities for these learners.
“It is a continuous extracurricular programme for schools adjacent to the KMI Airport. This is its second year, and we admire the work that both the teachers and the pupils have put in in preparation for this. We host the competition at the airport so that the attendants familiarise themselves with it,” he said.

This year, a total of 11 schools entered in the competition. Primary schools entered in the Grade Three and Six categories and secondary schools in the Grade Eight and 10 categories. The Grade Threes spelt Siswati words, while the participants of the higher grades spelt in English.
The winners were:
• Grade Three: Lwandle Khoza of Mthunzi Primary
• Grade Six: Divine Mazibuko of Maminza Primary
• Grade Eight: Justice Mshego of Mbuyane Secondary
• Grade 10: Anele Nkosi of Mthombo Secondary

These learners walked away with personal Makro vouchers worth R300 each, a trophy and a gold medal. They also won their respective schools a R3 000 voucher each to fulfil their wish list. Mashigo said the four schools with first-place winners will provide their wish lists to the airport, which will then be fulfilled.
