Pienaar artist experiments with Afrobeats on debut album
He says he draws aspiration from artists like Chris Brown, Davido, Techno, Ching Madi and Omah Lay.
An Afrobeats musician, Prince Twala, stage name Prince Tweezy, released his debut album in November and still hopes it will give people a new hope for life.
The album, titled G.I.F.T.E.D, which stands for ‘God is Favouring Tweezy Everything Denied’, has 10 songs that Twala composed himself.
“The album is about the challenges I have faced, love and God’s blessings in my life. This is a dream come true, because I have worked on this album for three years. I had to raise funds to pay for studio time to record the songs and got some rejection from close people who did not believe in my dream. I cannot wait for it to come out, and I believe Afrobeat music lovers will enjoy this album,” he said.
The album features some local artists such as Blessing F and Young Steeze.
Twala said he loves Afrobeat music because of its creativity. He ventured into this genre just to be different from the musicians around his home in Pienaar.
He said apart from the album, he does not have any other songs, but he was featured by a number of Nsikazian musicians whom he believed contributed greatly at the start of his music career.
“I started singing at a young age at school and around the community. I ventured into music professionally about five years ago with motivation from my sister after our parents had died. My love of Afrobeat music is influenced by artists like Chris Brown, Davido, Techno, Ching Madi and Omah Lay, and I would love to work with them one day.”

Twala said plans to achieve his goal of being famous include working hard to be well known in the music industry. “I want to be the best and venture into other creative fields in the music industry, such as producing. I want to travel the world and have my own record label that will help up-and-coming musicians,” he said.
