Mandla Mamba’s alleged killers appear in Mpumalanga Division of the High Court

The seven accused are facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder, three counts of attempted murder, and possession of a firearm without a licence and ammunition.

Seven men accused of murdering Mandla Mamba, a former City of Mbombela councillor and ANC member, appeared in the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court on January 20.

This incident took place at Barbs Industrial Cafe in Barberton in the early hours of July 2, 2023. The victim was having some drinks when the accused suddenly appeared and fired several shots, killing Mamba and injuring three others.

The matter was postponed to February 21 for consultation and further instruction with the accused’s legal representatives.

The National Prosecuting Authority’s regional spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa revealed that Melusi Nkosingiphile Mkhatshwa (27), Blessing Makhanya (24), Sello Mancoba Mavuso (22), Mbongeni Mbatha (23), Sizwe Mandlazi (31), Bongani Mazibuko (34) and Nkosinathi Vincent Shabangu (26) are facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder, three counts of attempted murder, possession of a firearm without a licence and ammunition.

“The State was ready to proceed with the trial, however, when the accused appeared, it transpired that some of them wanted time to consult with their legal representatives,” she said.
