Promotional League back in action

Teams faced off at the Thabakgolo Sports Field on Saturday, January 18.

The Shatale Promotional League finally kicked off at the Thabakgolo Sports Field on Saturday, January 18.

The first game of the year saw Mandela Warriors FC playing against Sinah Stars. It was Mandela Warriors who took the initiative in the first half and the game went to the break 1-0 in favour of the visitors.

Sinah Stars regrouped in the second half and levelled matters 10 minutes before the end of the game. The game ended one-all.

The second game was between Dwarsloop Academy and Super Eagles. Super Eagles drew the first blood after the goalkeeper moved off his line to try and parry the ball. Unfortunately, the Super Eagles player lost the ball, and all he could do was to watch it hit the net.

Dwarsloop Academy were playing enterprising short passes in the second half and they equalised in the dying minutes of the game after their player was hacked from behind in the penalty box. The referee awarded a spot kick and it was slotted home.

The game ended 1-1.

The third game saw Deco United locking horns with Farel FC. Deco United were the first to score. However, Farel levelled matters. Deco United again took the lead in the second half, and it did not take long for Farel FC to restore parity in the second half.

Both teams had ample opportunities to win the game, but were let down by lack of composure. The game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Progress Mashego, the secretary of the league, said the game between Bullfighters and the Britz could not be played after the Bullfighters had requested a fixture postponement due to bereavement in one of the players’ family. The game will be played within seven days. The league will communicate the details to the affected teams.
