Mataffin Hotspurs FC's coach praised his team's performance in the Safa Ehlanzeni U20 League.
Mataffin Hotspurs FC, founded in 2013, has grown into a hub for grassroots level talent in Matsafeni.
For over a decade, this club has nurtured various communities through football and given a new generation of players the opportunity to build a name in the sport.
It boasts of male players from 11 to 20 year old, and has competed in a large number of organised structures and tournaments. The U20 group is currently participating in the Mbombela stream of the Safa Ehlanzeni U20 League.
According to the club’s chairperson, Mzwandile Ngubane, the aim is not only to win the league, but to develop the skills of the players, while highlighting the importance of education.
“My vision is to see our players becoming responsible individuals, husbands and partners, while also contributing to significant change in a society that is plagued by gender-based violence,” he said.

Last Thursday, May 1, this club hosted the Mpumalanga School of Excellence FC at their home ground, Halls Sports Ground, for the week 15 game of the league. The game ended in a 2-2 draw.
It got off to a dramatic start as Mataffin Hostpurs’ Tshepiso Skhunjane’s shot from outside the box was handled by the opponents’ Lunga Sithole. This prompted the referee to award a penalty, setting the Hotspurs boys off with a lead of 1-0.
MP School of Excellence faced challenges in the first half, as they were down to 10 players after Sithole was sent off for his mistake.
Vusi Phiri added to Mataffin Hotspurs’ tally in the 30th minute, pushing the score to 2-0.
MP School of Excellence came out fighting in the second half and generated numerous opportunities. However, most of their efforts were hindered by Mataffin Hotspurs’ goalkeeper, Thami Nhlamulo, who blocked a beautiful shot from Kabelo Khumalo in the 55th minute.
