Nehawu delivers demands to Mpumalanga government’s doorstep

The MEC for public works, Thulasizwe Thomo, received the list of demands pertaining to employees in his department.

The National Educational, Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) demanded that the Mpumalanga premier, Mandla Ndlovu, address challenges faced by employees of the Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport.

A large of group of Nehawu members marched to the Mpumalanga Provincial Government Complex on May 15 to hand over a memorandum of demands.

Their demands included:
• The disposal of state houses
• Grading of all drivers to salary level four to be the same as in other provincial departments
• Filling of vacant funded posts in all directorates
• Provision of personal protection equipment and a safe working environment
• Provision of working tools to employees
• Improved infrastructural development plan
• Release of investigation reports
• Skills development plan
• Absorption of interns and learners
• Ceasing the outsourcing of boiler operation services
• Payment of overtime and other allowances
• Ceasing union bashing and assault of members.

The memorandum was intended to be handed over to Ndlovu, who was not available. The MEC for the Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, received the memorandum at the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature precinct.
