Mpumalanga musicians attend Music Creative Workshop

The founder of the Music Creative Workshop, Zoe Mnguni of Redamancy Lifestyle and Entertainment, said the turnout was great and there was a lot to learn.

The Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation, in conjunction with Redemancy Lifestyle and Entertainment, hosted the two-day annual Music Creative Workshop at Mbombela Stadium. The educational workshop for Mpumalanga’s music creatives took place on May 28 and 29 under the theme, ‘Edutainment.’

The initiative offers young people a platform to develop their creative talents for business and gain related educational knowledge. Facilitators engaged with young creatives regarding the South African Music Performance Rights Association (Sampra) on the matter of royalties and the funding they offer.

A local artist who attended, Ike Lekhuleni (also known as Gk Splinter) said he appreciated the learning experience the workshop offered.

“A lot of things stood out for me, especially when they reminded us that we should treat our music career as a business and take it seriously. This kind of event shows us that they are recognising the work we are doing.”

The founder of the Music Creative Workshop, Zoe Mnguni of Redamancy Lifestyle and Entertainment, said the workshop is a programme that empowers and uplifts the youth of Mpumalanga, adding that around 350 artists attended.

“This workshop was founded eight years ago and brings together artists from Ehlanzeni, Nkangala and the Gert Sibande districts, with various stakeholders on board to share their knowledge and expertise.”
