Standerton woman killed over R1 000
The accused allegedly assaulted and killed a woman demanding money that was stolen.
Lungile Khumalo (25) and Queen Nhleko (26) are in custody after allegedly killing a woman they accused of stealing R1 000 at a party.
The incident, which also involved the assault of the woman’s male friend, occurred in Sakhile, Standerton on Friday, June 6.
The Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, said Khumalo and Nhleko approached the woman and her friend on the street. They knew the woman.
They accused her of stealing the money and allegedly took them to a shack belonging to one of their boyfriends.

There, they are said to have assaulted them with an electric cable, a shovel and a knife, demanding the money they claimed was stolen.
When the female victim lost consciousness, Khumalo and Nhleko reportedly took her to a clinic where she was pronounced dead. Her injuries included a stab wound to the back, bruises and a swollen head.
The male friend is currently in hospital in a critical, but stable, condition.
The police were called to the clinic, and the suspects were arrested on June 6.

Khumalo and Nhleko appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on June 9 and face charges of murder and attempted murder.
They remain in custody and are scheduled to appear again on June 18 for a bail application.
