Public works and Bushbuckridge municipality give back to Vuhlayiselo Disability Centre

The initiative aims to create a more accessible, safe and dignified space for children.

As the country celebrated Nelson Mandela Day, the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport and the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality (BLM) hosted commemorative activities at the Vuhlayiselo Disability Centre on July 18.

The event was led by the public works MEC, Thulasizwe Thomo, the leadership of the BLM, the executive mayor, Cllr Lydia Moroane, the speaker, Cllr Ruth Raganya and the chief whip, Cllr Bhunu Malandule.

The outreach focused on renovations to enhance accessibility, safety and dignity for the children.

Renovations carried out included replacing roofing, installing a wheelchair-accessible building ramp, extending doorways for improved accessibility, constructing a gate ramp, repairing broken windows and painting.

In addition to the renovation work, donations were made to the centre. These included dignity packs, a JoJo Tank and warm blankets.
