Penreach gathers learners for sports day in Mbombela

Penreach's STEAM director, Given Mashabane, said the event showcased the impact that young leaders can have when they step up and take the lead.

Penreach recently hosted its first-ever ‘Together We Play Sports Day’, led by the 2025 Penryn South Africa Scholar Executive at Penryn Astro Field on Saturday, August 16.

The day was filled with smiles, energy and victories of a different kind, despite a tough weekend for some South African sports teams.

Mashabane said the event featured Penryn players coaching and mentoring the Penreach Sportreach rugby and hockey teams, showcasing the power of young leaders stepping up and making a difference.

“The day was made even more special by an inspirational visit from Caroline Birt Jack, a former hockey Olympian. Penryn scholars facilitated a generous donation of equipment, including 35 hockey sticks, 11 hockey bags, two rugby togs, one goalie kit, more than 30 balls and over 10 pairs of shin pads,” he said.

Mashabane added that the ‘Together We Play Sports Day’ was a powerful reminder of what Penryn and Penreach are all about.
