Safa Ehlanzeni donates soccer kits to teams
The teams that recently won their league streams will play their final games wearing new jerseys and kicking new balls.
Safa Ehlanzeni handed over full soccer kits and balls to all participating teams at the Safa offices in Mbombela on Wednesday, August 13.
The handover, led by the Safa Ehlanzeni president, Kaizer Sibanyoni, was part of an initiative to develop grassroots football in the district. Safa Ehlanzeni features the Mbombela Development League (MDL), which includes U13, U15, U17 and U20 teams from the Nsikazi region.
According to the Safa Ehlanzeni co-ordinator, George Kgoale, the soccer equipment will assist teams to compete in the upcoming season. Kgoale said the teams that recently won their league streams will be able to compete in their final games wearing new jerseys and kicking new balls.

“In addition to the MDL, Safa is running U13 and U15 leagues in Pienaar, Matsulu, KaBokweni, and KaNyamazane. At the end of the season, the winners of all streams will compete in the inter-championship to determine the overall champions,” he said.
The MDL kicked off on April 26 and is expected to end on November 27. “The league features 10 U13 and 10 U15 teams, with the majority based in Mbombela and two teams hailing from White River,” Kgoale said.
After some unexpected delays, the Safa U20 Ehlanzeni Mbombela Stream concluded on August 3. The Mbombela stream winning team will face the Nkomazi Stream winner to determine the overall champions.

Kgoale added that the league has recruited 15 young referees, aged between 16 and 26, who will undergo a one-day referees course this month to ensure high officiating standards. The U13 and U15 leagues are still in progress, currently in match six.
