TUT Mbombela honours sporting excellence at 2025 awards
The university honoured its students who excel in various sports as a way of encouraging them to perform even better.
The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Mbombela Campus hosted its Sport Recognition Awards Ceremony at the Khayalami Hotel on Friday, October 10.
The annual event celebrates and acknowledges the remarkable achievements of student-athletes, coaches and sport administrators across the university’s campuses. The ceremony featured live performances by talented singers, poetry performances as well as a musical set by rising Lekompo-artist, Lotty S, a student of the eMalahleni campus.
The senior campus sport organiser, James Malele, said the evening brought together representatives from TUT’s wider sport community, including senior management, academics, sport staff and athletes who have shown exceptional dedication and excellence throughout the year.

The ceremony was officially opened by Dr Kenneth Netshiombo, rector of the Mbombela Campus.
TUT’s director of sport, Dr Hajira Mashego spoke on the importance of balancing athletic excellence with academic success and leadership development.
The following winners were recognised for their outstanding performance and contributions:
• Luvo Jalile – Best Newcomer
• Wonderboy Mynaga – Coach of the Year
• Tebogo Gumede – Best Academic Performance
• Bianca Nkalanga – Sportswoman of the Year
• Senzo Malinga – Sportsman of the Year.
“Each award recipient demonstrated the core values of school excellence, commitment, integrity and teamwork. The event was also enriched with vibrant entertainment,” said Malele.
He added that rewarding students inspires them to perform even better in their sporting disciplines.
