Ehlanzeni District sports clubs receive much-needed donations

Some of these teams were facing a lot of challenges due to lack of proper equipment.

The MEC for culture, sport and recreation, Leah Mabuza, handed over essential sporting equipment and attire to 20 sporting clubs in the Ehlanzeni District on Wednesday, October 15.

The handover ceremony was held at the Archives Building in Mbombela, with benefiting clubs spread across varying sporting codes. Twelve football clubs, one netball, three boxing, three basketball and one volleyball club received equipment.

This club development initiative aims to further the mandate of the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation to empower communities, boost participation and nurture young talent from grassroots level.

Luyanda Maseko of Dankie Son FC in KaBokweni said the club is grateful to benefit from the initiative. He added that the donation will have a huge impact, as the team urgently needed the equipment.

“We used to struggle during training, because we didn’t have kits and balls,” he said, adding that his team was glad to be selected.
