Barberton wellness day promotes health and morale
Wellness day has a positive impact on mental health and it helps the officers stay fit.
The Barberton management area recently hosted two successful Wellness Days. The aim of this programme is to prioritise the well-being of officials stationed at the area commissioner’s office, community corrections offices, Nelspruit Correctional Centre, and Barberton Correctional Centre.
The events promoted physical activity and teamwork among officials through various sporting codes, including soccer, netball, volleyball, pool, aerobics, indigenous games and a fun walk. The Wellness Days were facilitated by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.

Officials benefited from valuable services, including health screenings and financial advice, and participated in team-building activities that promoted unity and co-operation.

Talking about the importance of wellness in the department, Eric Mahlangu, manager of special programmes, highlighted that the department’s vision is to provide programmes that develop and maintain healthy, dedicated, responsive and productive employees within the public service, adding value to the department. The unit’s mission is to build and maintain a healthy workforce for increased productivity and excellent service delivery.
“These Wellness Days are a vital initiative that encourage our officials to prioritise their health and wellness while fostering a sense of camaraderie,” said Busi Ndlovu, area co-ordinator of corporate services.
“We are grateful for the support of our stakeholders, including the Sabie Hospital, the TVET College, and the Mbombela municipality for attending the event. Individual participation in the wellness day promotes sharing and provides opportunities to engage in activities that bring meaning and value to daily living, as well as individual wellness,” said Ndlovu.
