Legislature deputy speaker visits Moloto schools
During a recent visit to Moloto schools, the deputy speaker of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature, Sam Masango, motivated the learners and reminded them to be responsible.
The deputy speaker of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature (MPL), Sam Masango, visited three schools in Moloto Village, Thembisile Hani Local Municipality, on the first day of the school year.
The programme started at King Makhosonke II Secondary School, which Masango has adopted, and to which he has previously donated school uniforms for learners in need. The school’s Class of 2025 achieved a 84.1% pass rate.
Addressing learners, Masango said 2026 should be a year of maximum discipline, order and respect, which he described as the foundation for success. He encouraged learners to wear their school uniforms with pride, reminding them that they represent their school at all times. He also emphasised the importance of maintaining a safe school environment for both learners and teachers.
Representing the executive mayor of Thembisile Hani Local Municipality, Cllr Eunice Malekane welcomed the strong academic performance, describing the 2025 matric results as good news. She further emphasised the crucial role parents play in the education of their children.
The visit finished off with an inspection of the school’s infrastructure, where the delegation observed structural defects in the floors of mobile classrooms and a kitchen in need of proper reconstruction. Other concerns included a dumping site near the schoolyard, which poses a health hazard.
Masango then visited the nearby Peter Mokaba Primary School, where the administration block was recently destroyed by a fire, allegedly caused by learners who forced entry into the computer laboratory.
The school has appealed for assistance with the removal of rubble from the collapsed building and financial support to rebuild the block, as teachers no longer have an effective working environment.

The administration office has been declared a disaster area by the department, and the circuit has committed to assisting the school, as the situation puts the health and safety of learners, educators and the school management team at risk.
The programme concluded with a visit to Ndzundza Mabhoko Secondary School, where Masango congratulated the staff for achieving a 90% pass rate for the 2025 Grade 12 class, a significant improvement on the 70% recorded in 2024.
