Mpumalanga MEC commits to supporting learners during 2026 school year
A team from the Department of Health also conducted screening on the first day of school year
Mpumalanga MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, visited Marcia Mokoena Secondary School on Wednesday, January 14. The aim of the visit was to provide support and to monitor the school’s state of readiness for the 2026 academic year.
During the visit, Manzini interacted with school management and relevant stakeholders to evaluate preparedness in areas related to learners’ health, safety, and access to health services.
Speaking to the matric Class of 2026, Manzini encouraged them to remain focused and committed to excelling.

On the day, the department’s school health team conducted screenings of learners to identify any health-related challenges that could hinder learning.
Manzini pledged her commitment to supporting learners throughout the year to help them achieve top academic results. The MEC donated school shoes, backpacks and sanitary pads to learners.

“As former president Nelson Mandela once said, ‘Education is the great engine of personal development.’ As government, we firmly share the belief that children are our future, and it is our responsibility to ensure that no obstacle stands in the way of their academic success.
